To road to badass-ery is slow, but she is getting there. Got to wonder though, how does the healing work? Is it limited? Because IIRC the previous girl was shot in the head too. Or maybe it requires the baby to be killed?
She was shoot facing Psycho, and the bullet only grased the side of her head, the previous mother was shoot from the side, and she had got a katana blade near the heart right before. And they burned the body. It probably mean there is a limit to the regeneration. I think you probably can’t kill the baby itself, you have to kill the mother and make sure she can’t regenerate.
Healing anything short of instant Death….. Head shot, or heart stopping stabbing or maybe a thousand cuts where you bleed to death. Just because you heal fast doesn’t mean you can’t die after enough wounds been beat into you.
“Can’t mess with free will”…. That should be reassuring maybe?
If the only objective was for God to delivery to earth a demi-god he could surely just make that happen. POOF, and there you have it. This is something more and there are rules. And really, who confirmed that it’s really the second coming anyway?
Your operating under the assumption that the deity of this narrative is an analog of the western Christian idea of god, a being of absolute power. Maybe the god of this story’s universe can’t poof things?
The western Christian idea of god has gone both the ‘poof things in existence’ way and the unnecessary convoluted way … and so far the story line clearly smells of Christian eschatology complete with fallen or misguided church.
Depending on the denomination of the author I’m guessing this fallen/misguided church is a reference to the catholic or protestant church (my bet goes to the former).
I was thinking more like “Hey, all these girls keep getting killed. Maybe we should get a nice bunker loaded with supplies and hang out there for 9 months?”
If they don’t want to, fine, but I refuse to believe that EVERY SINGLE WOMAN whose been found by this group and killed by the Church has said “no, I don’t want your protection!” Which means that these guys have HAD to help protect some women out there and have failed, again and again.
You’ve identified a valid plot hole, but if you fix it the way you suggest then you wouldn’t have the necessary backstory for the storyline of this specific webcomic with current events set in the present. It’s like watching a SciFi movie, take the 2002 movie Signs for example wh..

(spoiler alert … if you still want to watch the movie don’t read on)
..ere the aliens are defeated by just water, simple H2O. You’re not going to tell me a space traveling species don’t know such a weakness in their anatomy and haven’t got something as basic as water resistant suits? H2O is !THE! most common molecule (not atom) in the universe! Plus they invade a planet where over 70% of it’s surface is water.
(spoiler end)

Same for this webcomic … it burns a hole in the story where for thousands of years it portrays the protectors to be utterly incompetent or blessed with a room temperature IQ. But that’s how it goes with fiction … it doesn’t always have to make sense.
And to be realistic, there wouldn’t be any religion without some … err … “artistic license”.
The thing is I don’t think he actually said the ALL SAINTS were around for a 1000 years. Who knows maybe they’ve only been trying to save them in modern times?
I also assume that the former girl in the first pages (Natalie?) was trained somehow, she has a bag with crosses on it and blew a dude up with a grenade. I feel like she ran for some unknown reason.
Another thought is that say you’re this girl who all this crazyness is happening to, do you automatically believe it and say “Well to stay safe I’m gonna lock myself in a safe room for 9 months” or do they spend some time as Maggie did not knowing they are pregnant, then it’s either too late when they are hunted and killed, or they end up having so much drama take up time before they realize these things are all true.
So IF… (and that’s a very large if) God and the Devil were to make a game or a wager with the stakes being the fate of mankind, both sides would have to have an equal amount of cards and/or pieces in play. In this reality it would seem a wild card that the playing pieces have free will and can not be entirely controlled.
I get the feeling that it’s less Satan’s work to stop the Second Coming from being born, as it is the Vatican itself lying to the members of “The Church” because they don’t wish to have an actual voice of God contradicting their ideals or give up their power to it.
If it’s still the second son, then it survived all the killings (and there is always just one woman pregnant with it). So Maggie isn’t his mother but only bearing him. That would make it likely that Mary wasn’t Jesus’ mother either.
And apparently we are not talking about the second coming of Christ either if we have a second son. That is going to quite a puzzler for trinity. Someone go tell Athanasius.

The plot is thickening nicely.

Also, isn’t it gist, not jist?

I wonder if she’ll believe it.
Nice job!
If they’ve been failing all this time, then maybe they should rethink their strategies…

Wouldn’t it be great if she birthed a child of some “old god” like Cthulu…. or even like Greek Gods? Zeus? Odin. That would be a mindfuck.
